School Profile

The School of Mining and Geomatics Engineering (Renamed from the School of Resources in 2016) is one of the departments with the longest history of Hebei University of Engineering. It has long served in talent training and scientific research in the fields of mining, surveying and mapping, production safety and emergency management. The college has four teaching departments: Mining Engineering department, Geomatics Engineering department, Safety Engineering department, and Remote Sensing Science and Technology department. It has mining engineering comprehensive experimental center, safety engineering comprehensive experimental center, geospatial information center and mining engineering training center.

The school has a strong teaching staff, with 58 current faculty members, including 21 teachers with professors, and associate professors, 40 teachers with doctorate degrees, and 33 master’s degree supervisors. It has national advanced workers in the coal industry, national advanced workers in coal education, and national outstanding young scientific and technological workers in the coal industry, there are more than 20 teachers with national and provincial talent titles such as Hebei Province’s outstanding teachers, Hebei Province’s “three, three, three” second-level talents, and Hebei Province’s 100 outstanding innovative talents in universities.

The college adheres to talent cultivation as its foundation and has a two-level talent training system, master’s and bachelor’s. It has five undergraduate majors: Mining Engineering, Geomatics Engineering, Safety Engineering, Remote Sensing Science and Technology, and Mineral Resources Engineering. It has the master’s degree authorization point for the first-level discipline of mining engineering and an academic master’s degree authorization point for its own second-level discipline of mining spatial information engineering; Three professional degree authorization points in the fields of resources and environment (mining engineering, Geomatics Engineering, and Safety engineering). There are currently 1173 undergraduate students and 79 postgraduate students.

The college firmly establishes the development purpose of “establishing the college with quality and strengthening the college with characteristics” and attaches great importance to the construction of quality projects. Currently, it has national and provincial brand specialty majors in mining engineering and a national first-class undergraduate major in geomatics Engineering. Mining engineering, safety engineering, and remote sensing science and technology are three first-class undergraduate major construction sites in Hebei Province; Mining engineering provincial undergraduate major comprehensive reform pilot major; The new engineering discipline of the geomatics Engineering school and the key construction major of the outstanding engineer plan; Hebei province resources exploration undergraduate education innovation highland and provincial college student practical education base; The two majors of surveying and mapping engineering and mining engineering have passed the engineering education professional certification of the ministry of education; The field of master's degree in mining engineering is included in the provincial professional degree graduate education comprehensive reform pilot program; The graduate training practice base jointly built with Jizhong Energy Group Co. Ltd. was rated as a provincial-level demonstration professional degree graduate training practice base.

The college has always adhered to the concept of "promoting the college through science and technology" and taken multiple measures to comprehensively enhance its scientific research strength. The college has Hebei Province coal mine construction technology innovation center, there are 4 provincial-level and Handan City key laboratories for deep tunnel surrounding rock control and disaster prevention, including Hebei University Coal resources development and construction application technology center. There are 6 municipal scientific research platforms including Handan Key Laboratory of Natural Resources Spatial information. In recent years, the college has undertaken more than 180 vertical projects such as national key research and development plans、973、863 and National Natural Science Foundation of China, as well as projects entrusted by enterprises and institution, and has own 6 provincial government science and technology awards. It has received 14 other scientific research awards, published nearly 200 SCI/EI indexed papers, published 8 monographs, and authorized more than 40 national invention patents. The college actively carries out international exchanges and has established good cooperative relations with more than 10 internationally renowned universities, including the University of Alaska in the United States, Eastern Michigan University in the United States, and the University of New South Wales in Australia. More than 10 students have been selected to study abroad for short periods of time.

The college insists on taking the construction of academic style as its leading role and takes cultivating high-quality talents with obvious engineering characteristics as its mission. In recent years, it has repeatedly achieved good results in competitions such as the National Challenge Cup and College Student Innovation and Entrepreneurship Design, and has won more than 40 awards in various national-level subject competitions. The master's degree admission rate ranks among the highest in the school, the graduate employment rate reaches over 96%, and nearly 8,000 outstanding graduates have been delivered to society, and widely distributed in production, management, scientific research, education, and other fields, they have become the pillars and backbone of employers.
